Evelyn's 12 Month Pictures
Evelyn turned 12 months in the beginning of June! And the fact that I’m posting this almost 3 months late should tell you how life has been here… constantly running around, a lot of screaming, excitement, and a lot of learning.
Developmental Update:
Evelyn started taking steps without support on Memorial day, and progressed quickly from there! At 12 months, Evelyn had learned and could produce a few ASL (American Sign Language) words, could identify objects spoken in Japanese, and Spanish. She could produce ‘milk’, ‘please’, and ‘all done’ in ASL. She can verbalize (to some degree - I think this is a good time to include I am also a linguist and I am studying her language development heavily!) ‘wow’, ‘dad’, ‘mom’, ‘yeah’, ‘juussee’ (juice), ‘wa’ (water), ‘Anakin’ (our cat), and ‘thank you’. She can shake her head yes or no, wave ‘hi’ and ‘bye’.
If we speak Japanese, she can correctly identify these words ‘kitsune’ (fox), ‘neko’ (cat), ‘inu’ (dog), and ‘akachan’ (baby).
I like to sing some toddler songs in Spanish, she has a Spanish book, and I speak simple Spanish sentences to her. She can wave goodbye when ‘adiós’ (bye) is being said.
Some of her favorites right now are Elmo, Daniel Tiger, learning how to ride her balance bike, and anything motor or sensory play.
Her favorite Books:
Hand Hand Fingers Thumb by Al Perkins
First Words - Spanish by Lonely Planet
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Eric Carle
First Words - Japanese by Lonely Planet
Babies in the Forest by Ginger Swift
I can’t get over how much she has grown since her newborn post (which you can find here, if you haven’t read it yet!). This has been the fasted year of my life and even though I am home with her, I still feel like I don’t get enough time to squeeze her and give her all that I can give.
Now in other news, do any of my friends want pictures of their kids? Because I am now obsessed with how fun it was to take these!
We are also starting a yearly tradition to make an interview video around her birthday. Each year we will ask her the same questions and document her growth. I’m super excited to make that series! Obviously, she can’t really answer too many questions this year, so we did for her.
