Michigan Sunflower Fields: Schell's Family Farm
Take a little sunshine home in a vase this summer at Michigan’s local U-pick sunflower farms. The Schell Family Farm is one of my favorites to visit every year. As first-generation homesteaders, they have had to start from scratch and learn the ropes. Starting in August, they have over 7 acres of beautiful sunflowers AND 3 acres of Wildflowers. The farm is the perfect stop to wander through the rows of sunflowers, take pictures, and snag a few flowers to bring back some sunshine into your home. In addition to the magnificent farm, the family is down to earth and so personable, always going out of their way to chat it up with us when we visit.
Let’s go take a look!

If you’re a photographer, you can actually snag some sunset sessions on their website for fee! We stumbled upon this by noticing they were open after hours. We, of course, planned for this to be a family photoshoot, so we went ahead and paid for a slot.
After you park and pay for your entry, you can either see the tall sunflowers in the very front or walk down the dirt road to the back farm. There, you will find shorter sunflowers (perfect for kids & babies) and the acres of wildflowers.
I’m still in awe by the beauty and how photogenic their fields were!
If you visit the farm, don’t forget to tag The Schell Family Farm and myself so we can give your picture some love!
