Spring Picnic | Hanami Date, 13 Mile Bike Ride, and Homemade Dandelion Wine Recipe
I have been watching @her.atlas cherry blossom videos and I wanted to find where we could enjoy a Japanese Hanami date (picnicking under sakura, or Japanese Cherry Blossom trees)! If you have been following us for a while, then you know we spent our honey-moon in Japan for 3 weeks. That was the best trip in the world and it only boosted our dreams of moving one day. But for now, we will enjoy little similarities where we are.
We got there just in time because the bottoms of the trees were already starting to turn green. My parents got their new hybrid bikes last year which motivated us to pick up some new ones! We bought our gently used bikes through Town N Country Bikes in Livonia. This post isn’t sponsored, but he helped us out so much that I wanted to give back! Not only did he help us pick out our bikes, but he provided everything we needed for Evelyn as a gift. He spends his spare time checking out Michigan’s various mountain bike trails and he knows his stuff. Be sure to check out his shop when you are looking to repair your bike, or buy a new (or new to you) one!
After packing up our picnic with all of our zero-waste essentials, we hit the trail for 13.18 miles! There’s a little spot where Hines Drive meets the I-275 bike trail that has 3 beautiful cherry blossom trees. It was the perfect spot to set up underneath. We watched as the petals gently fell, other bikers rode by, and even some classic cars were taking advantage of the beautiful weather.
Michigan very quickly went back to winter after this trip and we even received some snowfall! You never know what the weather will truly bring here. I took some pictures of the blossoms and I’ll be adding them to my print shop: Etsy - Searra Liggett. If you are looking for some photographs to spice up your home, to give as a gift, or just to help support a local artist, be sure to check out the shop (and maybe hit the ‘favorite’ button)!
If you are here for the dandelion recipe, you can find it at the end of this post! If you attempt it this spring, tag me on Instagram so I can see!
How do you love to enjoy spring? Are there any flower gardens or beautiful parks in your area?
