Tahquamenon Falls Michigan 2017 | Throw Back Winter Photography Glow Up
October 28-29th 2017
Winter is typically our camping season. It is off season for everyone else, so that means empty campgrounds and trails all to ourselves! If you have a dog that is better off leash than she is on, it is just a perfect time to travel. This is our first year staying home to get work done, and not enjoying the snowy trails! I found these pictures a little while back when I started designing my calendars and I thought of the idea to blog a throw back post.
I really wanted to show how much you can grow with persistent practice, and this space is a place for me to be unapologetically myself. So that being said, I wanted to include even some not-so-good looking photos in this post. Everyone doesn’t start out amazing, some people have to work and practice daily to get to where they are. My photography journey started in 2014 with my best friend’s senior pictures, I took a break my first year of college, and I started back up again in 2016 because I felt like something (a BIG something) was missing in my life. Being a full-time student and still learning how to adjust to college, I didn’t get to go out and prioritize photography.
This was actually our very first winter trip in the van (I miss that van)! We asked my dad if we could borrow his portable fireplace heater (surprise, that’s what we ended up getting for Christmas) and we packed a tarp to hang over the rear of the van to protect us from any possible weather while the doors were open. Thank goodness we did too because we woke up to our first snow! IN OCTOBER. I guess that’s what happens when you’re in the U.P. though, right? Charlie and I were being worked to the bone at our jobs, so we took a weekend to our selves dedicated to sight-seeing and doing homework by the fire.
When deciding where to go, we pulled out our handy Michigan bucket list of cities. Charlie had been wanting to visit Sault Ste. Marie for a while, and I wanted to take Kyra to the Tahquamenon trail since we did it a few years before. So, we did both! We headed north after Charlie and I got off work, did a quick evening hike before it got too dark, started a fire, and cozied up in our van bed! Kyra and I woke up before dawn the next day and hiked to the lower falls again, with better lighting so I could take pictures. By the time we were back at the van, it was time to wake up Charlie, drive to the upper falls, and head to the Sault! The only pictures I have of the fire and our cozy van were from my phone, but I’ll still include those below!
So without further adieu, enjoy our throw back.
I hope this encouraged you to just go out and capture memories. It’s all about the trip and having fun!
