Engagement Session at Elizabeth Park | Northern Michigan Photographer

Some sessions don’t unfold exactly the way we originally plan—and sometimes those end up being the most meaningful ones.

When I arrived in Trenton, Michigan for Caity and Austin’s engagement session at Elizabeth Park, we had originally imagined a full evening exploring the area. The plan included walking through the park, grabbing some ice cream, and wandering a bit downtown.

But that morning Caity had woken up with a pretty nasty cold.

Since I was only in town for that weekend, we decided to keep the session—but with one important change: we would take everything slowly. I reassured her that we would keep things simple, relaxed, and the moment she needed to rest we would call it a day.

What followed was a quiet and beautiful evening together.

We stayed mostly in the open grassy spaces and along the water, letting the peaceful setting of the park guide the session. The river moved gently behind them as they walked hand in hand, occasionally pausing to laugh or pull each other close.

And of course, they brought along their adorable husky pup, Zoey.

Zoey happily trotted alongside them, occasionally stealing the spotlight with her playful personality and fluffy enthusiasm. Pets always add such a natural energy to sessions, and she fit perfectly into the relaxed pace of the evening.

Despite not feeling her best, Caity made it through the entire session—and you would never know from the photos. The two of them spent the evening laughing, leaning into each other, and simply enjoying the quiet time together.

It felt easy and genuine, exactly the kind of connection engagement sessions are meant to capture.

Spending this time with them only made me more excited for what’s ahead. I’ll be photographing Caity and Austin’s wedding later this year, and after seeing the way they naturally move together, I already know it’s going to be a beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and plenty of meaningful moments.
