Ruth Lake Resort Motel & Cabins

Situated nicely between the Keweenaw Peninsula and Marquette, open year-round, you can find the Ruth Lake Resort Motel & Cabins. We stayed in Cabin number 2, which includes 2 double beds, kitchenette stocked with coffee and a full bathroom. There’s a boat launch and multiple outdoor recreation opportunities in the surrounding region, kayaks for rent, a community center, 200 feet of beach, patio by the water, communal firepit, and much much more!

We stayed at Cabin #2 and it was perfect for us! There is a kitchenette, but you aren’t guaranteed to have cooking equipment. Because of the length of our stay, we swung into the local market to pick up some groceries and cooked all our meals. If we needed any materials (like a can opener), we messaged the property manager and she let us borrow hers. I didn’t realize that we had two beds and we brought a play pen for our daughter. Everything was kept very clean and everything is washed after every stay.

Day 1

We got everything in the house just as a rain storm passed through. After we got everything situated and the rain was over, we headed out to look around the property. Then we headed to the Michigamme Market to grab a few groceries. They had the cutest little grocery cart for Evelyn to walk around with too! She helped pick out some juice boxes and snacks for herself, then took her cart to the checkout.

Day 2

Our second day was filled with traveling around the surrounding area HOUSE HUNTING! We are moving to the Upper Peninsula after years of vacationing up here! Afterwards, we made our dinner then headed to the beach until the sunset! I’ve also been dying to recreate the image of her asleep on me when we went to the Wilderness State Park last year, so we did that! We were exhausted and headed right back to the cabin after the sun went down. I finished working while Charlie read, and Evelyn was passed out in her bed!

Day 3

We had Friday all to ourselves! So, we rented kayaks and toured Ruth Lake. I switched to my GoPro since it is waterproof. I have been loving taking my GoPro to capture stunning underwater pictures of our kids, or taking it camping/hiking since it is lighter than our DSLRs. I am just in awe at the amazing pictures that can be captured and I wanted to practice with my GoPro more this year, so I brought it to do just that! Although it is a little weird, I love the underwater picture at the end that I captured. Afterwards, it was recommended that we visit the Mount Shasta Restaurant down the road. I got the Coconut fried shrimp and Charlie got the whitefish dinner, both were delicious! We ate outside on the patio and had it to ourselves.

Day 4 (Day 1 of the Porcupine Mountains)

Day 3 was our last day at the cabin. We packed up, did one last run-through of the checkout list, and checked out. We headed to Bond Falls to recreate yet another photo taken the weekend I told my husband we were pregnant. It was so fun to experience the beautiful waterfall with our daughter this time! After the waterfalls, we headed out the the Porcupine Mountains for the weekend.

It was a wonderful vacation and the views were stunning!

Would you stay at the resort for those sunset views? I know I would again!
