*Note: I’m aware that these are uncertain times limiting many aspects of life as we all practice social and physical distancing. While I will continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, I don’t expect or encourage you to check them out immediately. I firmly believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and I hope my blog posts will inspire your future adventures! Check online or call ahead for hours. When traveling, please do so safely and responsibly by practicing social distancing and wearing a cloth mask or face-covering while in enclosed areas or near others.
Mid-Michigan Laser Combat (MMLC) is based out of Saginaw Michigan, but they have been all over the state. It’s founder and commanding officer, Lee Knepper, has “a passion for bringing a new style of laser tag to those who seek a more challenging opportunity.” Okay, but what is Laser Combat? Outdoor Laser Combat, sometimes called Laser Tag, is an authentic action game that is based on the most popular computer game battles.
Mr. Knepper’s MMLC is equipped with all the latest digital technology to ensure precision for the players, and a smooth game for the referees. The number of lives each player has is usually limited, so it’s essential to outwit the other team members through stealth, speed, nerve, and of course, teamwork! I’ve had the privilege of playing in some of MMLC’s Laser Tag games, in fact, that’s how I met my husband! Mr. Knepper provides carefully articulated games at wonderful locations, and they are so fun! Each game is unique and you get to feel like a kid again - running through the woods (or sometimes open fields), working out your communication skills with your teams, and of course enjoying being outdoors! Although games are usually based in public parks, Mr. Knepper has done a few private games indoors too. I was able to attend a few games based in Kettering and he provided obstacles for the players there as well. He hosts a mixture of private games for hire, public games, tournaments, and, of course, zombie survival! Make sure to check out their Facebook page for a list of events and updates.
This session was different, however. Instead of playing in the games, I was there to photograph them! But, this was also the first public zombie game at the time. It was so fun being a game tester and then being able to actually see the game playing out, also just watching everyone’s faces light up that whole night was a blast!
