Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Races
Janurary 7th - 8th, Newberry, MI

Whether you are looking to be a spectator, musher, pro or beginner, the Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race offers a beautiful scene and thrill of mushing a trained team of sled dogs. The Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race is held annually in January at Muskallonge Lake State Park. The race is always one of the first of the mushing season and draws mushers from throughout the Midwest and Canada. Spectators are free and can watch the race. This year, all three races are teaming up to bring a new challenge: The Superior Crown.
Young’s 5th Annual Winterfest
January 21st, Iron River, MI
In Iron River, you can find a festival to get you out into the snow and have some fun. There’s free trail use and equipment rentals, a cribbage tournament, food and drink specials, arts & crafts for the kids, games, face painting, dog sled rides, live music, and sleigh-rides. Certain events have special times, but the whole festival will run from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Celebrate winter the Finnish way at this cultural celebration! The Finnish Theme Committee of the City of Hancock created a new Finnish-American celebration: Heikinpäivä. You can find Finnish crafts, music, food, films, games and more. Although it is a Hancock City event, sometimes the spirit and events spill into the neighboring communities from Calumet to South Range.
MTU Winter Carnival
February 8th - 11th, Houghton, MI
The largest winter celebration in the nation brings people in from all over to participate in amazing winter activities from broomball, comedy skits, sleigh rides, winter hikes, and to view the amazing snow and ice sculptures. This year’s theme is Tasty Foods for Wintery Moods. There is tons of winter fun to be had!
Michigan Ice Fest
February 8th - 12th, Munising, MI
Michigan Ice Fest makes ice climbing accessible to first timers. You can find teachings for beginners or advanced skills for more experienced climbers. This event started almost thirty years ago as a way for a handful of climbers to meet up and have gone from 7 individuals to almost 700 and growing. You can find various events all week under their schedule.
The UP200 Sled Dog Races
February 16th - 20th, Marquette, MI
Although traveling by sled dog is no longer a necessity, it has become a hobby and a sport. People come from all over to witness the start of the event in downtown Marquette. You can find events held throughout the night during the start of the race, events at the Prince Peach Church in Harvey, and events in Grand Marais throughout each checkpoint day. This year, all three races are teaming up to bring a new challenge: The Superior Crown.
CopperDog 150
March 3rd - 5th, Calumet Twp, MI
The CopperDog 150 races are held annually on the first weekend of March. The 14th annual race will be held from March 3rd to March 5th, 2023. The start of the race will take place in Calumet, typically with events for the whole family. Then it will run to Eagle Harbor, through Copper Harbor, and finish back in Eagle Harbor. This year, all three races are teaming up to bring a new challenge: The Superior Crown.
